Romany

Itinerant European people

Romany refers to the Romani people, an ethnic group with origins in northern India who migrated to Europe centuries ago and now live worldwide.

It also names their language, an Indo-Aryan tongue with many dialects.

As an adjective, Romany describes their culture, traditions, or language: Romany music, Romany customs.

The term is generally preferred over "Gypsy," which many consider offensive.
