Chinese emperors
Sons of Heaven
Chinese emperors were the supreme rulers of imperial China, from the first emperor Qin Shi Huang in 221 BCE through the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1912.
The emperor held absolute political and spiritual authority, considered the Son of Heaven and mediator between the celestial and earthly realms.
The Chinese emperors ruled through a vast bureaucracy of scholar-officials.
