A Roma tomato is an oblong, plum-shaped variety bred for thick flesh and few seeds—ideal for sauces, pastes, and canning.
Also called Italian tomato or paste tomato.
The meaty texture holds up better to cooking than juicier slicing varieties: I use Roma tomatoes for homemade marinara.
