Renfield

Mad vampire's assistant

Renfield is a character from Bram Stoker's *Dracula*—a madman who eats insects and small animals to absorb their "life force," slavishly devoted to the vampire.

The name has become shorthand for a sycophantic minion who does a powerful figure's dirty work: Every supervillain needs a Renfield.

The term often implies degrading loyalty or willing servitude to someone malevolent.
