Quasi-War
Unofficial naval hostilities
The Quasi-War was an undeclared naval conflict between the United States and France from 1798 to 1800, fought primarily in the Caribbean.
The name reflects its ambiguous status—hostilities without a formal declaration of war.
The term now applies to similar undeclared conflicts: Critics called the drone campaign a quasi-war.
