P-trap
Sink's sewer seal
A P-trap is a curved section of drainpipe shaped like the letter P on its side, found beneath sinks, tubs, and other plumbing fixtures.
The bend holds standing water that creates a seal, preventing sewer gases from rising up through the drain into living spaces.
The plumber replaced the corroded P-trap under the bathroom sink.
The name distinguishes it from similar traps shaped like other letters, such as the S-trap.
