Big water dogs
Newfoundlands are large, powerful dogs bred for water rescue and heavy labor.
The breed originated on the Canadian island of Newfoundland, where fishermen used them to haul nets and save drowning swimmers.
They have thick, water-resistant coats, webbed feet, and a reputation for gentle temperament: Newfoundlands are known as gentle giants.
Often shortened to Newfies.
