Canadiens

Oldest NHL franchise

Canadiens refers to the Montreal Canadiens, the professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League.

Founded in 1909, they are the oldest continuously operating professional hockey franchise and have won more Stanley Cup championships than any other team.

The name reflects the team's French-Canadian identity—Canadiens being French for Canadians.

Fans call them the Habs, short for *les habitants*.
