partisan warfare
Civilian armed resistance
Partisan warfare is armed resistance by irregular fighters against occupying forces or established governments.
Unlike conventional armies, partisans operate in small bands, often behind enemy lines, using ambush, sabotage, and hit-and-run tactics.
The term carries connotations of ideological commitment—partisans fight for a cause, not just territory: Yugoslav partisans harassed German supply lines throughout the war.
