Mississippian describes someone or something from Mississippi, the U.S. state: Mississippian hospitality, a lifelong Mississippian.

In geology, the Mississippian is a period of the Paleozoic era, roughly 360 to 320 million years ago, named for limestone formations along the Mississippi River valley.

British geologists typically call this same period the Lower Carboniferous.
