state church
Government-endorsed faith body
A state church is a religious denomination officially recognized or endorsed by a government, often receiving public funding and legal privileges.
England has the Church of England; Denmark has the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Countries with state churches may still allow religious freedom, but the established church holds special constitutional status.
Also called an established church.
