LGBTQ rights
Sexual minority protections
LGBTQ rights are the civil and human rights sought by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people—including marriage equality, protection from discrimination in employment and housing, and legal recognition of gender identity.
The phrase emerged in the late 20th century as the movement expanded beyond earlier "gay rights" framing: The court's ruling was a major victory for LGBTQ rights.
