Kohinoor

Legendary Indian diamond

Kohinoor, also spelled Koh-i-Noor, is a large and historically significant diamond now set in the British Crown Jewels.

The name comes from Persian meaning "mountain of light." Originating in India, it passed through the hands of various South Asian rulers before being acquired by the British East India Company and presented to Queen Victoria in 1850.

Its ownership remains contested, with India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan all having claimed it.
