Into the Woods is a 1987 Stephen Sondheim musical that interweaves several Brothers Grimm fairy tales—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel—around an original story of a baker and his wife seeking to break a witch's curse.
The first act ends happily ever after; the second explores darker consequences.
