Commons

British legislative chamber

Commons refers to shared resources or spaces available to all members of a community.

Historically, the commons were lands where villagers could graze livestock or gather wood.

The concept extends to modern shared resources: the creative commons, the digital commons.

In British politics, the Commons is the House of Commons—the elected lower chamber of Parliament: The bill passed the Commons.

A commons can also be a dining hall at a school or university, or a central green in a New England town.
