Helm's Deep

Helm's Deep is a fortified gorge in J.R.R.

Tolkien's Middle-earth, serving as a refuge for the people of Rohan.

It appears most prominently in *The Two Towers*, where a desperate battle against Saruman's forces becomes a turning point in the war.

The name has become shorthand for any last-stand defensive position: We're making this conference room our Helm's Deep until the project ships.
