Heimlich manoeuver
Abdominal thrust technique
The Heimlich manoeuver is an emergency technique for dislodging an obstruction from a choking person's airway.
The rescuer stands behind the victim and delivers sharp upward thrusts to the abdomen, forcing air from the lungs to expel the blockage.
Named after American physician Henry Heimlich, who introduced it in the 1970s.
Also spelled Heimlich maneuver.
