artificial respiration

Manual lung ventilation

Artificial respiration is the act of forcing air into and out of the lungs of someone who has stopped breathing.

Methods include mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, where a rescuer breathes directly into the victim's airway, and mechanical ventilation using machines.

The goal is to maintain oxygen flow until normal breathing resumes: The lifeguard performed artificial respiration on the drowning victim.
