Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian painter (1862–1918) who founded the Vienna Secession movement and became known for ornate, gold-leafed portraits and allegorical works.

His painting *The Kiss* is among the most recognized images in Western art.

Klimt's decorative style and erotic subjects made him both celebrated and controversial in turn-of-the-century Vienna.
