Jacob Lawrence
Harlem Renaissance artist
Jacob Lawrence was an American painter known for depicting African American life and history through bold colors and angular, stylized forms.
His sixty-panel *Migration Series* (1940–41) chronicled the Great Migration of Black Americans from the rural South to northern cities.
Lawrence worked in a narrative style he called "dynamic cubism," making him one of the most celebrated Black artists of the twentieth century.
