Gulf Wars
Middle Eastern campaigns
Gulf Wars refers to two major conflicts in the Persian Gulf region.
The first (1990–1991), also called the Persian Gulf War or Operation Desert Storm, was fought by a U.S.-led coalition to expel Iraqi forces from Kuwait after Saddam Hussein's invasion.
The second (2003–2011), often called the Iraq War, began with a U.S.-led invasion that toppled Hussein's regime.
The term sometimes encompasses the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988) as well.
