Grexit

Athens leaves Brussels

Grexit is a blend of Greece and exit, referring to the hypothetical withdrawal of Greece from the eurozone or European Union.

The term emerged during the European debt crisis of the early 2010s, when Greece's financial instability raised questions about whether it could remain in the currency union: Markets plunged on Grexit fears.

The word spawned imitators like Brexit.
