Midsize family hauler
The Ford Explorer is a sport utility vehicle produced by the Ford Motor Company since 1991.
It became one of America's best-selling SUVs and helped establish the category as a mainstream family vehicle rather than a specialty off-road product.
My parents drove an Explorer when I was growing up.
The model has evolved from a rugged truck-based design to a more car-like crossover.
