Timberline
Mountain resort brand
Timberline is the elevation on a mountain above which trees cannot grow, also called the tree line.
Beyond this boundary, conditions become too harsh—cold temperatures, high winds, thin soil, and a short growing season prevent trees from surviving.
We hiked above the timberline where only alpine grasses and lichens grew.
The timberline varies by latitude and local climate, occurring at lower elevations the farther you travel from the equator.
