Everest Base Camp
Summit attempt launchpad
Everest Base Camp refers to either of two staging areas for climbers attempting Mount Everest—one on the Tibetan north side, one on the Nepalese south side.
The South Base Camp is the more famous, sitting at about 17,600 feet.
The trek to Everest Base Camp has become a popular adventure destination for hikers who have no intention of summiting: We did the Everest Base Camp trek last spring.
