Camino de Santiago

Medieval pilgrim route

Camino de Santiago, Spanish for "Way of Saint James," refers to a network of pilgrimage routes across Europe that converge at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, where tradition holds the apostle Saint James is buried.

The most popular route, the Camino Francés, stretches nearly 500 miles from the French border.

Modern pilgrims walk or cycle the routes for religious, spiritual, or personal reasons, earning a certificate called a Compostela upon completion.

She spent six weeks walking the Camino de Santiago.
