ocean world

Water-covered celestial body

An ocean world is a planet or moon whose surface is largely or entirely covered by liquid water.

The term appears in astronomy and planetary science discussions about potentially habitable environments beyond Earth: Europa and Enceladus are candidate ocean worlds in our solar system.

Some ocean worlds may have their water beneath an icy crust rather than exposed.
