Entrapment

Police-induced lawbreaking defense

Entrapment is the act of luring someone into a compromising situation, especially when law enforcement induces a person to commit a crime they wouldn't otherwise have committed.

A defendant may claim entrapment as a legal defense: The charges were dismissed on grounds of entrapment.

More loosely, any scheme that tricks someone into a trap: She felt the interview questions were designed for entrapment.
