entrapments

Schemes inducing guilt

Entrapments is the plural of entrapment—the act of luring someone into a compromising situation, or the state of being trapped.

In law, entrapment is a defense claiming police induced someone to commit a crime they wouldn't otherwise have committed: The defendant argued the sting operation was one of several entrapments targeting vulnerable addicts.

The word also applies to physical or emotional snares: a series of entrapments in bad relationships.
