Don McLean

Don McLean is an American singer-songwriter best known for "American Pie" (1971), an eight-minute ballad about the death of Buddy Holly and the changing landscape of American music and culture.

The song's refrain "the day the music died" has become a widely recognized phrase.

His other enduring hit is "Vincent," a tribute to painter Vincent van Gogh.
