Dick Gregory

Civil rights satirist

Dick Gregory (1932–2017) was an American comedian and civil rights activist who broke barriers as one of the first Black comedians to perform for white audiences in mainstream venues.

His sharp political satire addressed racism and social injustice during the 1960s.

Gregory later became known for health advocacy and extended fasting as protest: Dick Gregory's humor cut deep because it told the truth.
