Dian Fossey
Dian Fossey was an American primatologist who devoted her life to studying and protecting mountain gorillas in the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda.
Her eighteen years of fieldwork produced groundbreaking research on gorilla behavior and social structure.
She was murdered in 1985, likely by poachers she had battled against.
Her memoir *Gorillas in the Mist* became a bestselling book and film.
