Deflategate
Ball pressure scandal
Deflategate refers to the 2015 NFL controversy in which the New England Patriots were accused of deliberately underinflating footballs during the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
The scandal resulted in a four-game suspension for quarterback Tom Brady and fines and draft pick losses for the team.
The -gate suffix, borrowed from Watergate, marks it as a scandal.
