Jersey traffic revenge
Bridgegate refers to a 2013 political scandal in which aides to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie orchestrated lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, causing massive traffic jams in Fort Lee as apparent political retaliation against its mayor.
The -gate suffix, from Watergate, marks it as a scandal.
Bridgegate effectively ended Christie's presidential aspirations.
