Climategate

Hacked research emails

Climategate refers to a 2009 controversy in which hacked emails from climate scientists at the University of East Anglia were selectively quoted to suggest manipulation of global warming data.

Climate change skeptics used the term to imply scandal and scientific fraud.

Multiple investigations cleared the researchers of wrongdoing, though the episode became a touchstone in debates over climate science credibility: Climategate was a manufactured controversy.
