keyboard layout
Typing surface configuration
A keyboard layout is the arrangement of keys on a keyboard.
The standard English layout is QWERTY, named for the first six letters in the top row.
Alternative layouts like Dvorak aim for typing efficiency.
Layout also refers to the mapping of characters to keys for different languages or scripts: I switched to a French keyboard layout.
