Compassion

Heart for suffering

Compassion is the feeling of concern for another's suffering, coupled with a desire to help.

It goes beyond pity—compassion implies emotional engagement and often action: She showed compassion for the homeless man by bringing him a meal.

The word suggests warmth and understanding rather than detached sympathy.

One can have compassion for strangers, enemies, or oneself.
