Chornobyl

Reactor explosion site

Chornobyl is the Ukrainian spelling of the city and nuclear power plant site known in English primarily as Chernobyl (from Russian transliteration).

The 1986 reactor disaster there remains history's worst nuclear accident.

Since Ukraine's independence, and especially after 2022, the Ukrainian spelling has gained wider adoption in English media and official contexts.
