CENTCOM is the abbreviation for United States Central Command, the military command responsible for American operations in the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of North Africa.
It oversees some of the most strategically sensitive regions in U.S. foreign policy: CENTCOM confirmed airstrikes in Syria overnight.
The command gained prominence during the Gulf War and subsequent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
