Iron Cross
German bravery medal
The Iron Cross is a German military decoration established by Prussia in 1813 and revived during subsequent wars, most notably by Nazi Germany.
The distinctive black cross with silver edges became widely recognized through World War II imagery.
Because of its Nazi associations, the symbol carries controversial weight, though it predates that era and remains in modified form in the modern German military. (Lowercase iron cross is a gymnastics move.)
