Bronze Star Medal
Military bravery honor
The Bronze Star Medal is a United States military decoration awarded for heroic or meritorious service in a combat zone.
It ranks below the Silver Star but above the Purple Heart in precedence.
When awarded specifically for valor in combat, it includes a small bronze "V" device: He received a Bronze Star with V device for actions in Afghanistan.
