Battle of the Bulge
Hitler's final gamble
The Battle of the Bulge was a major German offensive through the Ardennes forest in December 1944, creating a "bulge" in Allied lines.
It was Germany's last major Western Front offensive in World War II.
The phrase sometimes appears metaphorically for any desperate counterattack or, jokingly, for struggles with weight gain: My battle of the bulge continues after the holidays.
