Aztec warrior

Ancient Mexican soldier

An Aztec warrior was a soldier in the military forces of the Aztec Empire, which dominated central Mexico from the 14th to 16th centuries.

Warriors advanced through ranks by capturing enemies for ritual sacrifice, earning the right to wear distinctive regalia—jaguar skins or eagle feathers for elite orders.

The term now evokes fierce, elaborately costumed fighters: He had an Aztec warrior tattooed on his shoulder.
