Asperger

High-functioning autism diagnosis

Asperger refers to Asperger syndrome, a developmental condition on the autism spectrum characterized by difficulties with social interaction and nonverbal communication, often accompanied by intense focus on specific interests.

Named for Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperger, the term was widely used until 2013, when it was folded into the broader diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Many people still identify as having Asperger's: He was diagnosed with Asperger's as a teenager.

The informal noun and adjective Aspie is used by some in the community.
