Armagnac
Medieval Gascon territory
Armagnac is a brandy produced in the Armagnac region of southwestern France, distilled from white wine and aged in oak barrels.
It predates Cognac and tends toward earthier, more rustic flavors.
Like Champagne or Bordeaux, the name is protected—only brandy from this region can legally be called Armagnac: a glass of Armagnac after dinner.
