Antares

Red celestial behemoth

Antares is a red supergiant star in the constellation Scorpius, one of the brightest stars visible from Earth.

Its reddish color and position along the ecliptic led ancient astronomers to associate it with Mars—the name means "rival of Ares," the Greek god of war.

Antares marks the heart of the scorpion in classical star maps.
