ABS brakes

Skid-prevention technology

ABS brakes are brakes equipped with an anti-lock braking system—a mechanism that prevents wheels from locking up during hard braking.

When sensors detect a wheel about to stop rotating, the system rapidly pulses brake pressure, allowing the driver to maintain steering control.

The phrase is slightly redundant, since the S in ABS already stands for system, but ABS brakes is the common way people refer to this feature: My old car didn't have ABS brakes.
