2x4s

Framing stud material

2x4s are lumber boards nominally two inches by four inches in cross-section, though actual dimensions are smaller due to milling.

They're the most common framing material in residential construction: The walls are framed with 2x4s.

A 2x4 can also be a makeshift weapon or tool: He grabbed a 2x4 from the lumber pile.
