yuppy

Status-seeking urbanite

Yuppy is a mildly disparaging term for a young urban professional—someone in their twenties or thirties with a well-paying white-collar job and conventional aspirations toward career success and material comfort.

The word peaked in the 1980s but remains in use: The neighborhood filled up with yuppies and their expensive strollers.

Also spelled yuppie.
