woodscrew

Pointed wood fastener

A woodscrew is a metal fastener with a pointed tip and helical threading designed to grip wood fibers as it's driven in.

Unlike machine screws, which require pre-threaded holes, woodscrews cut their own threads and typically have a tapered shaft that widens toward the head.

The head may be flat (for countersinking flush with the surface), round, or oval, with a slotted, Phillips, or other drive pattern.

Use woodscrews rather than nails for a stronger joint.
